This is my final year project during my degree studies.
Artist Statement
“The Ocean is in your hand” is a public art project that aims to raise awareness about the marine life and ocean. As a diver, I’ve seen the beauty of undersea creatures and amazing marine life. Unfortunately, the ocean is facing problems of overfishing and pollution which endangers and destroys the marine life. Although this seems like it is not affecting us who live above the water, the truth is that the ocean is extremely important to sustain the earth’s ecology.
My project is to create an augmented reality environment that shows marine life through mobile phones using global positioning system (GPS) features. Most people own mobile phones now and will do so in near future, therefore everyone will have the chance to discover the importance of the presence of marine life. This project will help to create awareness as well as hope that this is not the only way our children will see marine life in the future.
This project uses Layar, which is an augmented reality platform for smartphone.
The video below shows how the application works in real time.
This project is location based augmented reality where users have to turn on their GPS and look for sea creatures around the campus. The idea is to simulate underwater where to find sea creatures. People can learn more info about the sea creatures by tapping the object and related information will appear in their phones.
